The Vegan Society Aotearoa announced it will be hosting the second annual Chocolate Awards on 29 April in Ponsonby, New Zealand.

According to the Vegan Society, there will be six judges attending the awards, each from a different area of expertise in the food industry. 

Among the new judges will be Professor in Food Studies at AUT, Tracy Berno; Michelin-starred chocolatier Thomas Netana Wright; and founder and chef at Giapo Ice Cream in Auckland, Giapo Grazioli. 

Returning judges will include F&B manufacturing industry veteran Aaron Pucci, multi-award-winning TV chef Jasbir ‘Jazz” Kaur TV, and Floris Niu, a fourth generation Samoan Cacao farmer, processor, and Chocolate-maker.

This year will see the addition of two new awards categories: Bark/ Brittle chocolate and Dipped Fruit. Categories that are open for entrants until 28 April include:

  • Dark Chocolate bars; Milk Chocolate bars (plant milk only)
  • Chocolate Bars; flavoured/ inclusions
  • Filled chocolate Bon Bons and Truffles
  • Caramels
  • Bean to Bar; dark milk/ subs/ flavoured
  • Drinking Chocolate
  • Bark/Brittle Chocolate
  • Dipped Fruit
  • Supreme

Entrants are accepted from all over the world, though the product must be commercially available in New Zealand. Those interested in attending may register here.
